Tribute Evening to Calixte Duguay

Tribute Evening to Calixte Duguay

The community pays tribute to renowned Acadian writer and singer

Lamèque, N.B., Monday, October 7, 2019: A Grand Tribute Evening to Calixte Duguay will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at 6 p.m., at Mathieu-Duguay Hall in Lamèque. The event promises to be colourful and emotional, reflecting the life and career of this important Acadian figure.

Calixte Duguay is known as a writer, singer, producer, television host, publisher and artistic director, and has pursued a prolific career on the Acadian cultural scene and beyond for over 40 years.  His work, deeply rooted in his native Acadie, is inspired and universal.  The evening will feature a succession of many personalities from various backgrounds who will pay tribute in music or words to the man who gave us such landmark works as the musical Louis Mailloux and unforgettable songs.

The event is organized by the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival.  According to its president, Jean-René Noël, since Calixte Duguay is from Lamèque Island, it was only natural for a local organization to take such an initiative.  "It is the entire Acadian community that is invited to converge on Lamèque to greet, honour and thank one of its most illustrious sons," he said.

Proceeds from the evening will be donated to the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival as part of its fundraising activities to ensure its funding.

The evening includes a four-course meal and will start at 6 p.m. Tickets, at a cost of $60, are available from the members of the Board of Directors and the Festival Office by calling 344-3261.
