Less than a week before the start of the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival

Lamèque, N.-B., Friday, July 18, 2025: The 49th season of the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival, under the theme "The Nations", kicks off in less than a week. This grand celebration of early music will bring together some forty artists and will make the churches of the islands of Lamèque and Miscou resonate with the sound of baroque music.

TWO PRE-FESTIVAL EVENTS
A concert for young audiences and a historical dance workshop will kick off the festivities. Presented in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, these friendly events encourage interaction between music lovers of all ages and the Festival’s artists.

EVENING CONCERTS
These concerts will feature works by leading composers of the Baroque era, Georg Philipp Telemann and Johann Sebastian Bach from Germany, as well as Spanish composers of the 17th and 18th centuries. Some of Canadas finest baroque musicians will take the stage at Sainte-Cécile Church in Petite-Rivière-de-l’Île — a venue renowned for its exceptional acoustics and striking appearance!

MATHIEU DUGUAY EARLY MUSIC COMPETITION
Three young finalists will share over $10,000 in prizes during the sixth edition of the Mathieu Duguay Early Music Competition. Members of the audience are invited to attend both rounds of the competition and vote for their favorite finalist.

INTIMATE CONCERTS THAT TAKE YOU ON A JOURNEY
The Festival will also present three intimate concerts that will take us on a journey to England, France and Iran. On the program:

  • A harpsichord recital, celebrating the master of all Baroque instruments
  • Music by François Couperin performed by the Quebec-based ensemble Les Idées heureuses
  • Original compositions by percussionist Ziya Tabassian, inspired by 17th-century Iranian rhythmic cycles
