The Festival will not be presented in 2020

Looking forward to welcome music lovers in 2021!

Lamèque, N.B., Monday, April 20, 2020: Due to the situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is with regret that the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival team announces that the 2020 season of the Festival will not take place as planned from July 23 to 25, 2020.

According to the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Jean-René Noël, the Festival team has been monitoring the situation for several weeks now.  " This decision is necessary to protect the health of the public, musicians and volunteers.  We take the public health directives issued by the various competent authorities very seriously," he said.  "We are very sad that it has come to this point, but given the uncertainty of the health situation, we don't really have a choice.  For the first time in 45 years, there will be no baroque music concerts in Lamèque this summer.”

The artistic director of the Festival, recorder player Vincent Lauzer, remains confident for the future. "Our mission has always been to make baroque music known and loved.  For more than four decades, the best musicians from across the country and around the world have been coming together every summer in Lamèque and dazzling us with their talent," he said.  "The Festival team will continue to deploy all its efforts and creativity to pursue this mission.  We will meet again next year, July 22 to 24, 2021, to celebrate our 45th anniversary!”

The Festival sincerely thanks all its generous grant makers, sponsors and donors, as well as the many volunteers and organizations that have already committed to presenting the 2020 season of the Festival.  We look forward to seeing you all in 2021!  Continue to follow our activities on our social media and website.

In closing, we would like to express our gratitude to the front-line employees of the health care system for their incredible work and dedication.  Our hearts go out to them.
