The Festival begins in two weeks


The celebration of baroque music begins in two weeks!

The Festival will acknowledge the outstanding support of Margaret McCain

Lamèque, N.B., Tuesday, July 5, 2022: The 46th season of the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival will begin in just over two weeks. This great celebration of early music will bring together some forty artists and will be held from July 21 to 23, 2022. The entire Festival team is proud to invite you to ten concerts and events held in person, a first since the 2019 edition.

EVENING CONCERTS
The Mission Saint-Charles Choir is celebrating its 36th anniversary this year and will be featured in evening concerts at Sainte-Cécile Church in Petite-Rivière-de-l'Île.

"Actus Tragicus”
Saturday, July 23, 7:30 p.m.
Cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann for soloist, choir and orchestra.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORT FROM MRS. MARGARET McCAIN
The "Actus Tragicus" concert will be dedicated to Mrs. Margaret McCain, a music lover and long-time friend of the Festival who, thanks to an exceptional donation, has made this concert possible.  “We are touched by her generosity and support of the festival, a unique cultural institution in Eastern Canada that contributes to the development of New Brunswick beyond its borders,” said Jean-René Noël, President of the Festival.

THE RETURN OF THE MATHIEU DUGUAY EARLY MUSIC COMPETITION
The Festival is proud to present the fifth edition of the Mathieu Duguay Early Music Competition. This will be an opportunity to hear violist Tristan Best, harpsichordist Sébastien Mitra and violinist Guillaume Villeneuve, the three finalists selected for the 2022 edition of the Competition who will perform in two events under the direction of conductor and harpsichordist Hank Knox.

DAYTIME PROGRAMMING FOR ALL TASTES
The 2022 season will also see the presentation of daytime concerts accessible to all, which promises beautiful discoveries or rediscoveries. This series will be an opportunity to hear the complete cello suites by Johann Sebastian Bach performed by Elinor Frey and to attend a creation combining contemporary dance and minimalist music.

FESTIVAL UNISSON – Baroque Track
The Festival is proud to collaborate for the first time with the Festival Unisson for the presentation of the baroque component of the event. During two mornings, listeners will be invited to experience a musical tête-à-tête with a musician from the Festival. This is a unique opportunity to get in touch with an artist during a 15-minute intense connection.
