A successful 41st season for the festival

Concerts and events were well attended

Lamèque, N. B., Saturday, November 5, 2016: The 41st season of the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival presented last July was very successful. This is what came out of the assessment of the festival's activities made by the board of directors during its general annual meeting that took place Saturday, November 5, 2016, in Lamèque.

Overview of the 2016 season – artistic and financial success

In his report, the president of the board of directors, Jean-René Noël, provided an overview of the year's activities. From the outset, he stressed the work of the board of directors and volunteers, as well as the unwavering support of the community to the festival. "We presented three high-caliber concerts to music lovers along with five related activities that were all successful", he said.

The 2015-2016 fundraising campaign has been a success, as the financial goals for donations, sponsorships and fundraising activities have all been met or exceeded. In terms of financial performance, the president presented the financial statements, showing a surplus of $27,284 at year-end. The president noted that the actual expenditures were below the approved budget by $2,030, a variation of 1.4% compared to the target. "I commend our team for the sound management of the festival's finances. This is essential to the sustainability of our event" said the president.

The festival has recorded an average assistance of 247 spectators per concert, an increase of 4% compared to the previous year. "These are encouraging results especially in a context where there seems to be a drop in attendance for many events," said Noël.

Upcoming edition in 2017

The president confirmed that the 2017 edition is already in preparation. Next year will be the 42nd edition of the festival and will coincide with the celebrations of Canada's 150th anniversary. The festival team hopes to present something special for this occasion. Furthermore, the presentation of the third Mathieu Duguay Early Music Competition will undoubtedly be a highlight of the 2017 season.

The 42nd season of the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival will be presented from July 27 – 29, 2017. Details of the program will be announced next spring.
