Lamèque, N. B., Wednesday, October 10, 2018: The Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival is proud to launch the fourth edition of the Mathieu Duguay Early Music Competition.  Young baroque musicians are now invited to submit their application.

According to the Festival artistic director, recorder player Vincent Lauzer, the competition is gaining notoriety and is now attracting applications from the United States and several European countries.   "This competition is designed to support emerging musicians in the field of baroque music. Unique in Canada, it allows musicians to develop their career and offers them valuable exposure on the North American baroque music stage. "

This competition is open to musicians aged between 18 and 30 years old on March 1, 2019.  Singers and instrumentalists playing on period instruments and performing according to the historically informed practice are welcome to apply. The competition rules and application form can be found of the Festival Website at www.festivalbaroque.com.  The deadline for applications is March 1, 2019.

Winners of the competition will share $6,500 in prizes.  The winner of the first prize will be invited to perform in the 2020 season of the Festival.  "As in the last edition presented in 2017, the public will be able to hear the three finalists in two events, in recital with continuo and in concert with the Mission Saint-Charles Orchestra," said Vincent Lauzer.  “Young musicians bring excitement to the Festival and the public really appreciate this.”

The competition is named after the founder of the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival, Mr. Mathieu Duguay.
